Aveda Wins The Prestigious 2014 Cosmetic Executive Women Eco Beauty Award

For the first time ever, Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) opted to give the award in recognition of a brand, rather than a product!

The CEW Eco Beauty Award was created to encourage brands within the beauty industry to take steps towards sustainability, and Aveda was recognized today for it’s leadership in sustainability and pioneering role in the industry.

Aveda was founded by the late Horst Rechelbacher in 1978, an award-winning hairdresser and visionary, and has managed to pioneer new benchmarks of environmental responsibility in beauty since its founding in 1978!

It was the first privately-owned company to sign the Ceres Principles in 1989 – a nonprofit organization mobilizing business leadership on climate change, water scarcity and other sustainability challenges – and the first beauty company in the world to manufacture with 100 percent wind power in its primary facility.

Aveda was also the first beauty company to receive a Cradle To Cradle charter for its commitment to sustainable products, packaging and production. Currently seven products hold Cradle To Cradle certification.  Since 1999, Aveda’s annual Earth Month campaign, held each April, has been able to raise more than $32 million to support environmental projects around the world.
