Aveda Professionals Style at New York Fashion Week!

We have the scoop on some amazing hair looks you’ve probably seen on the runways for TIBI, Public School, Novis and Ann Yee!

Aveda professionals have created these fabulous looks for New York Fashion Week presentations and we have the full trend report and names of products used to achieve their look.

TIBI FALL/WINTER 2014

Aveda Global Creative Director, Antoinette Beenders, created a “country girl meets urbanite” look for the TIBI Fall/Winter 2014 show at New York Fashion week. “The collection story tells the intersection of the pastoral and the urban,” said TIBI designer Amy Smilovic. “We wanted the hair to express a clean, natural feel but still convey soul and a refined grittiness. Imagine a natural beauty from the countryside who has the energy and je-ne-sais-quoi of an urbanite. From the clothing to the hair, we wanted to show how these contrasting forces can co-exist”. “We completed each look by tousling and running new Aveda Dry Remedy™ Daily Moisturizing Oil through the hair for extra moisture and shine,” said Beenders. “This look is so wearable and so easy to do that I think it is going to be a great hit both on and off the runway.”

Here’s How To Re-Create The Look:
STEP 1. Begin by spraying Pure Abundance™ Style Prep liberally into the hair all over to boost volume and to create some really great texture.
STEP 2. Take an inch wide section of hair right at the top of the head at the hairline and create a tight braid down the center of the head. Stop braiding at the crown and use an elastic that matches the hair color so it disappears into the hair.
STEP 3. Take a small section of hair above the left ear and braid down to the end. Repeat on the right side and connect both braids underneath the hair at the nape of neck to hold hair away from face.
STEP 4. Create 3 large, loose braids with the remainder of hair at the back and quickly clamp a flat iron down them. Gently unravel, tousle and run Dry Remedy™ Moisturizing Oil through hair for soft, gentle waves with a little shine.
STEP 5. Finish off the look with a misting of Control Force™ Hair Spray all over for a strong but barely-there hold.

PRO-TIP: For hair that needs more moisture incorporate Dry Remedy™ Moisturizing Shampoo and Dry Remedy™ Moisturizing Conditioner into hair care routine in addition to Dry Remedy™ Moisturizing Oil.

PUBLIC SCHOOL FALL/WINTER 2014

Aveda Global Artistic Director for Hair Styling, Allen Ruiz created ‘flyaway texture’ for Public School’s Fall/Winter 2014 Collection. For Women’s “I took inspiration from the layered elements in the line. The off-center, uneven part makes it purposely less than perfect. I brought texture back into the hair by layering products to ‘mess it up’ and enhance movement. This season, Public School designers Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne introduce their very first Women’s collection which is “the perfect counterpart to the existing Men’s line— they’re best friends— this was designed for a guy/girl couple. It’s clean and undone but street, creating layers and texture”.

Here’s How To Re-Create The Look:
STEP 1. Start with clean, dry hair and create an off-center part. To prep the hair for styling, spray Pure Abundance™ Style-Prep™ throughout the hair from roots to ends. Then, brush it out to distribute the product evenly and add natural bulk to each strand.
STEP 2. Create a low braid and secure at the bottom with an elastic. Massage Control Paste™ into the braid to build texture then loosen it with your fingertips. Apply just a hint of heat to the braid to lock in the pliable hold then clip it up to cool it down.
STEP 3. Take the braid out and add an extra bend in the hair with a 1 inch flat iron. Spray the roots of the hair with Air Control™ Hair Spray for a flexible, lasting hold. Its dry delivery will add a matte appearance.
STEP 4. Finish with the new Dry Remedy™ Daily Moisturizing Oil by emulsifying it into your hands and layering it into the ends of the hair to leave them soft and full of shine.

NOVIS FALL/WINTER 2014

Backstage at the Novis Fall/Winter 2014 presentation was an Aveda takeover. Antoinette Beenders, Aveda Global Creative Director and Janell Geason, Aveda Global Artistic Director, Makeup created hair and makeup looks that complemented the graphic, bold shapes and earth tones in the collection – inspired by expressionist art. For makeup, Geason created a hydrated, matte complexion with Aveda Inner Light™ Concealer and set with Aveda Inner Light™ Dual Foundation. “The clothes for Novis this season are very structured and geometric so I wanted to create something soft and very beautiful for the makeup,” said Geason. “I combined our Eye Shadow Transformer with a new Petal Essence™ Single Eye Color in Golden Cypress for a shimmery paint like effect on the eye.”

Here’s How To Re-Create The Look:
STEP 1. Prep skin with Aveda Tourmaline Hydrating Creme. To create a hydrated matte complexion, apply Aveda Inner Light™ Concealer as needed and finish with Aveda Inner Light™ Dual Foundation.
STEP 2. Apply Aveda Petal Essence™ Eye Definer in Cacao with a smudger brush in the contour of eye and bottom lash line to enhance shape.
STEP 3. Press Aveda Petal Essence™ Eye Color in Golden Cypress* onto lid. Then press Sensitive Composition onto the lid for a glossy effect.
STEP 4. To highlight brows without being overdone, use a little Aveda Petal Essence™ Eye Definer in Cacao on a brush and comb through the brow.
STEP 5. Lightly contour the cheeks with Aveda Inner Light™ Dual Foundation. 2 shades darker than your natural skin tone.
STEP 6. Apply a dusting of Aveda Petal Essence™ Face Accents in Tesserae on to apples of the cheek for a light flush.
STEP 7. Mix Aveda Nourish-Mint™ Sheer Mineral Lip Color in Sheer Fig* and Nourish-mint™ Rehydrating Lip Glaze in Mangosteen and press into lips for a stained effect.

ANN YEE FALL/WINTER 2014

Aveda Guest Artist, Jon Reyman, created a “bold, worldly look: edgy twists married to a texturized faux fringe” for the Ann Yee FW14 Presentation in New York City. Inspired by the modern nomad, Yee was “mesmerized by the notion of an urban dweller with an adventurous spirit and non-conformist perspective”. “Ann wanted geometric sharp lines and an abstract architectural shape in the back of the hair with a thick faux fringe in the front,” said Reyman. “I used new Dry Remedy Daily Moisturizing Oil for softness and shine and finished the look with Men’s Firm Hold Gel and a misting of Control Force for a defined hold.”

Here’s How To Re-Create The Look:
STEP 1. Divide hair into 4 sections – top, bottom, left and right with a visible and defined part.
STEP 2. Spray Pure Abundance™ Style Prep onto each section of hair for sleek volume and blow dry straight. Use a fine tooth comb to gather the top section of hair in your hand and secure into a small ponytail with an elastic. Repeat on left, right and bottom sections of hair.
STEP 3. Run Dry Remedy™ Daily Moisturizing Oil through each ponytail and begin to twirl each section of hair around elastic. Pin each twirl in place covering the elastic – leaving the ends out.
STEP 4. Bring loose ends over the forehead and style in place creating a thick textured fringe. Use Men’s Pure-Formance™ Firm Hold Gel to tightly comb each section of hair into place from nape of neck up. Finish the look with a misting of Control Force™ Hair Spray all over for a strong but barely-there hold.

PRO-TIP.: For hair that needs more moisture incorporate Dry Remedy™ Moisturizing Shampoo and Dry Remedy™ Moisturizing Conditioner into hair care routine in addition to Dry Remedy™ Daily Moisturizing Oil.
