4 North American stylists hit the jackpot in Las Vegas
On Friday, July 19, 2013, contestants from the United States and Canada and top hair professionals from every corner of North America gathered at The Mirage Hotel and Casino Las Vegas for an unforgettable evening at the Wella Professionals North America Trend Vision competition. But our titles is misleading, as this was not merely a win based on chance, but rather earned through the hard work and creativity of visionary stylists in the Student, Young Talent and Color categories.
More than 2,000 attendees cheered encouragement to the finalists competing for the Gold, Silver and Bronze awards in each category. The gold winners of the 2013 North America Trend Vision Awards, Rose Marie Corpuz of San Jose, CA (Young Talent), and Shirley Gordon of Wheaton, MD (Color Category), will represent the USA, while Canada will instead be represented by gold winners Lucy Zemba of Orillia, ON (Young Talent) and Fay Linksman of Toronto, ON (Color Category) at the next International Trend Vision competition and celebration set to take place in Frankfurt, Germany, during the week of Hairworld.
This event was the fourth annual North American Trend Vision Awards, one of the worldwide rounds designed to select the finalists who will face off in the international competition. Thirty-five finalists were judged by a panel of experts that included celebrity stylists Andy LeCompte, Jennifer J., industry icons The Doves, Wella International Creative Director Reiner Sauter and behindthechair.com Consulting Editor Jackie Summers.
Trend Vision was designed to celebrate the skills of emerging stylists with an inherent sense of originality demonstrated through their interpretion of one of the four trends in the 2013 Haute Couture “Sound of Color” Collection created by Wella Professionals Global Creative Directors Eugene Souleiman and Josh Wood.
To keep the creative fire alive, there was also an star-studded roster of top international artistic teams performing on stage, including Shay Demsey and Hans Nilsson of the Sebastian Professionals International Artistic Team. Session stylist and international educator Carmody Homan for Clairol Professional, Mark Hayes and Tracy Sakosits for Sassoon Academy were also on hand, while Joey Scandizzo, International Trend Vision Award winner and one of the youngest hairdressers to be named Australia’s Hairdresser of the year, completed the line-up.
