2013 America’s Beauty Show – a Smashing Success!

Celebrating its 90th continuous America’s Beauty Show (ABS), Cosmetologists Chicago (CC) welcomed more than 55,000 salon professionals for the best in collective beauty energy.

“It is because of America’s Beauty Show’s commitment to enhancing the careers of my fellow salon professionals, that we can maintain our passion for our craft, through internationally renowned education, access to the latest tools and products, and connectivity with our peers,” says Cosmetologists Chicago President Joseph Cartagena of Genacelli and The East Studio salons in Chicago. “We can count on ABS to help us grow our profession for years to come.”

Crowds enjoyed the many sparkling facets of America’s Beauty Show 2013, including the 2nd Annual BeautyBASH.  Saturday evening was a terrific gala of singing, dancing and musical performances by real beauty professionals, the proceeds of which all went to the Cosmetologists Chicago Presidents Scholarship Fund to help members continue their education.

And the 2013 edition of ABS piloted the first All-Star Panel, headed up by Fabio Sementilli, Wella Creative and Technical Director, and featuring such VIPs as  Mark Hayes, Sassoon Creative Team, who forcasted trends from global inspirations; Richard Ashforth, ABS Headliner of Saco, who lent some insider insight on how to prepare and shoot a fashion collection; Jan Arnold, Co-founder CND, on how to apply runway trends in your salon; Gerard Scarpaci & Randy Taylor, co-founders of hairbrained.me, who discussed education & community; Kelly Ehlers, Evoke Brands, on building your social media profile; and Tracey Hughes, ABS Headliner from Australia, on the impact education can have on salon services and business.

Of course there was a string of awards as Cosmetologists Chicago presented the winners of the STARS Photo Contest for professionals, students and nail technicians with cash prizes and recognition during the BeautyBASH. The 2nd Annual Leo Passage Gold Trophy Award was presented to Chrystofer Benson, who earned the highest aggregate scores in three STARS categories.  And as is now customary, the 3rd annual Wella Student Competition winners were also announced.
