The 10th edition of the competition. Dean Tsopanis is going to LA for the international finals on January 31
Dean Tsopanis, owner of Biba Salon in Forrest Hill, in New Zealand, is one of the finalists of the 2013 edition of the American Crew FACE OFF Award. Dean will be bringing his men’s collection to Los Angeles, where he will compete against other talented colleagues from the UK, USA, and Canada.
“I took my inspiration from images of James Dean and Elvis Presley,” Dean says of his winning entry below. “Their styles are classic, masculine and still cool after all these years. I wanted to create a look that was raw and that something any man could wear. To style the winning look I used the American Crew Forming Cream to give fullness and texture. It’s simple to use, washes out easily at the end of the day and smells awesome.”
Dean was nominated during an event held in Melbourne in November, conducted by GQ director Nick Smith and featuring Mimi Galan of Arthur Galan, the director of the magazine culture magazine Hayley Miller and Benji Hart of London Management. One of the perks for being nominated is a photo shoot for GQ and Culture, together with the cover of the magazine of the American Crew FACE OFF.
The competition, launched in Australia in 2005, was designed to boost the visibility of salon and styling talents specializing in men’s hair fashion. For the 2013 edition, more than 600 entries are competing for the grand prize. The winner will receive a trip to Madrid as a guest of American Crew and the chance to work backstage at the brand’s 2013 fashion shows.
