Paula Kent Meehan’s PETS 90210 made a monumental and historical statement in this year’s Tournament of Rose’s Parade with it float entry entitled, FOLLOW THE STARS – ADOPT A PET!
The float won the award for the Most Beautiful Non-Commercial Entry, the second highest award, and garnered international attention to the plight of homeless pets.
The float carried Uggie, the star of such huge films as “The Artist” and “Water for Elephants”. Uggie, a rescue dog himself, sat up, did tricks and waved to the audience as did his celebrity companion on the float, Elaine Hendrix, star of films, “Superstar” and “The Parent Trap”.
Also on the float were 9 adoptable dogs from Los Angeles Animal Services (LAAS). Following the parade, LAAS held the first ever pet adoption event at the float viewing. ALL of those dogs were adopted and as a result of the float the adoption rate in the shelters rose 25%. This greatly impacts and lowers the euthanasia rates for LAAS saving thousands of dogs and cats who simply need a good home – someone to love and take care of them.
Ms. Meehan said, “I’m just so proud to have done the float and so honored that it won such a prestigious award. I want to thank all of the stylist who watched and promoted it, but the fight must continue to save animals everywhere.”
