Joico celebrity colorist George Papanikolas creates a brand new multi-chocolate hue for the star
Sometimes a girl just needs a change. And if you can’t go any darker, you always go a bit lighter. And that just what Joico Celebrity Colorist George Papanikolas did for Kim Kardashian at Hollywood’s Andy LeCompte Salon, softening and lightening up her raven black tresses to a more chocolate hue.
“Kim wanted a glossy, fashionable look,” says George. “We were inspired by the fashionable brunette shade recently seen on Lea Michele—it’s multi-dimensional and glossy, which is the hottest trend for brunettes.”
Creating Kim’s dark chocolate base with caramel and milk chocolate accents, George first softened her darkest brown shade with Joico Vero K-PAK Base Breaker to lightens the hair one level without warmth. Then, he worked in balayage highlights around her face and on strategic points on the ends with Joico VeroLights Crème Lightener. The last step was to add a rich chocolate gloss with Joico Vero K-PAK Chrome in equal parts N6 + N8 to help blend the shades and produced a high-shine finish.
Follow-up is also important to help maintain any new hue. “Tone-on-tone is the most sophisticated new look for brunettes, and it’s important to protect color to maintain its richness,” he explains. “So I send all of my brunette clients home with Joico K-PAK Color Therapy Shampoo to prevent fading and Joico K-PAK RevitaLuxe Bio-Advanced Restorative Treatment for incredible shine, condition and touchability.”
