Above the arch of stately ashlar stone façade the word “Bank” still remains, but look more closely at the etched glass windows and you will read “C’est Moi Salon“.
In fact, this Davines salon and spa now occupies this turn-of-the-century bank building in the historic distric of Lowell, Indiana, offering respite from hectic everyday living in this establishment oozing with vintage charm.
Step inside the door and into the sunny Parlor with its black&white mosaic floor and eclectic overstuffed armchairs. In the styling area is marked by an explosion of what seem to be the same b&w mosaics into a larger tile in a geometric pattern, while gold walls are offset by dark woodwork and white open tray ceilings and everything is illuminated by minimalist suspended halogen lights. In keeping with the true Davines philosopy, owner Lori Clark has repurposed antique dressing tables to serve as unique work stations for each designer.
Draw aside the rich blue velvet curtain to reveal galley floorboards and ceiling, manicure stations, dripping crystal chandeliers, a shabby chic credenza and market stall striped sun curtain. The Color Space is the heart of the salon, where artistry and creativity to flow, literally, as the floor is an ever evolving work of art transformed daily as color is allowed to fall freely, creating a unique abstract finish. The Wash House indulges guests with calming hues of watery blues and soothing music.
The original bank’s vault (the Well Being Space), now marbleized in tawney golds and browns, stands witness to the bank’s past, including a robbery by the infamous John Dillinger gang. Evidence remains on the bullet hole laden brass screens that encase the windows of the Color Space.
Lori assures everyone that at C’est Moi Salon, keeping the planet beautiful by using eco-friendly products, conserving energy by using natural light, and repurposing and recycling as much as possible is an everyday practice.
