How To! Fashion Week Street Style Favorites from Rodney Cutler & George Papanikolas

Master the hottest street style hair trends of New York Fashion Week with tips from Matrix Celebrity Stylist, George Papanikolas and Rodney Cutler, Redken Brand Ambassador and owner of Cutler/Redken Salons in NYC as they share their favorites from NYFW.

With a few simple steps you’ll be flaunting on-trend hair that’s worthy of a front row seat!

Poppy Delevingne / Half Up Top Knot:I love this relaxed, chic new take on the top knot,” says Rodney Cutler. “It’s a great glam on-the-go style and looks flawless with minimal time and effort. It also works well on second day hair.”

Get the Look:
1. Spray Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Primer on damp hair to protect from heat and reduce blow dry time. Dry using a diffuser. If you’re working with day old hair apply Redken Cerafill Texture Effect Hair & Scalp Refresher Dry Shampoo.
2. Starting at the hair line, pull the top portion of hair, from ear to ear into a loose top knot.
3. Twist hair into a bun and secure with bobby pins and/or a hair tie.
4. Finish the look by lightly spraying Redken Triple Take 32 Extreme High Hold Hairspray.

Hannah David / Beachy Waves:Loose, effortless waves have secured a spot as a top trend this season,” says George Papanikolas. “Whether you’re styling a wavy lob or long, flowing locks this look is very flattering and great for showing off your balayage.”

Get the Look:
1. Apply a small amount of Matrix Style Link Volume Builder to damp hair and blow dry with a diffuser.
2. Part hair in the center or slightly to the slide.
3. Curl hair using a 1” curling iron and wrap hair flat around iron in sections, starting at the mid-lengths.
4. Complete by adding Matrix Style Link Style Fixer Finishing Hairspray and gently run fingers through curls to loosen.

Christina Hendricks / Center Parts:A middle part can add an edgy twist to a simple look. Dress it up with voluminous loose waves, tousle for a just got out of bed look or opt for more severe straight hair,” says Rodney Cutler.

Get the Look:
1. Evenly apply a small amount of Redken Outshine 01 Anti-Frizz Polishing Milk to damp hair to reduce frizz and add shine. Blow dry hair straight using a paddle brush.
2. Carefully part hair down the middle using a comb.
3. Use a 1” flat iron to touch up and straighten hair.
4. Apply a small amount of Redken Quick Dry 18 Instant Finishing Spray near the roots.

Kylie Jenner / Bold and Blonde Color:Blondes dominated New York Fashion Week this season. From dirty blonde to platinum, we’ve been seeing a lot more people taking color risks and experimenting with bold looks,” says George Papanikolas.

Get the Look:
1. If you’re starting with dark hair, it’s best to make this change in stages so you don’t overprocess the hair. Start by asking your stylist for a lot of microfine highlights, so your stylist can build upon the color.
2. Repeat another round or two of highlights at additional appointments until you get the desired blonde color. It usually takes two to four appointments to achieve this look. Be mindful of your hair throughout the change, if your hair starts feeling dry then you should proceed with caution to avoid breakage.
3. George recommends using Matrix Biolage Colorlast Shampoo and Conditioner to maintain your hair color.
