Get Emmys Red Carpet ready with Redken's Tracey Cunningham

Friday, 11 September 2015 15:34

For just one night this fall – September 20th, we’ll trade in football fields for red carpets with the airing of the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted live in Los Angeles.

Though still a few weeks away, Redken Celebrity Colorist Tracey Cunningham has already begun working her magic on several nominees and awards guests including Amy Poehler, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Anna Gunn and Sarah Paulson.

Below find a few of Tracey’s top red carpet prep and at-home maintenance tips that she is using on her celebrity clients in advance of the awards. Be on the lookout following the Emmys for Tracey’s tips and step-by-steps on how she achieved the look on her favorite red carpet stars!

"I have my celebrity clients come in a few weeks before the Emmys to keep their hair as healthy and as conditioned as possible. I usually start their color process a couple of days before the awards and the day before, I will perfect it by applying a Redken Shades EQ Gloss so that they have shiny, healthy-looking hair on the red carpet."

The Emmys conveniently falls right after summer vacations, which is great for my clients’ tans but horrible for their hair! I always tell my clients that if their hair is distressed from highlights and the summer sun, try integrating a fortifying mask into your routine as needed, like Redken Extreme Strength Builder Plus Fortifying Mask. It conditions and strengthens your damaged hair.”

If I notice that my client’s hair has become brittle or is overly-processed and damaged, I will apply Redken’s Extreme CAT treatment before the color service to prevent future damage.”

For my blondes like Amy Poehler, I always recommend the Blonde Idol Custom-Tone adjustable color-depositing daily treatment in Violet (to cancel brassiness) or Gold (to add golden warmth) to help preserve tonality until next salon visit. For extremely dry or damaged blondes, try alternating usage of Blonde Idol Mask daily or weekly as an intensive treatment.”
