Oscars in Style: Top Hairstyles recreated by Joico’s Jonathan Colombini

Celebrity hairstylist Jonathan Colombini who’s coiffed the tresses of such stars as Laura Prepon, Fergie, and AnnaLynne McCord, breaks down his Oscar night top hairstyles, and provides some easy how-tos to recreate some of the evening’s head-turning looks.

JULIANNE MOORE’S PERFECTLY CHIC CHIGNON
Jonathan’s best-look-of-the-night award goes to Oscar winner herself, Julianne Moore. Regal, classic, yet modern, Julianne’s side parted low chignon was the perfect touch.

Get-the-Look
Emulsify a generous amount of Joico Heat Set on to your hands and apply to towel dried hair –Heat Set will protect the hair from the heat and give you that smooth blow out– then proceed to blow out the hair with a boar bristle flat brush. Add a clean side part, sweep the hair into a ponytail sitting at the nape of the hair & securing with a bungee. Take the ponytail and twist, roll and tuck to form and shape a bun. Secure with hairpins. Lay down any fly-aways and add great shine with a misting-spray of K-PAK Color Therapy Dry Oil Spray. Finally, spray with Joico’s Power Spray Fast-Fry Finishing Spray to set the look.

NAOMI WATTS’ SOPHISTICATED WAVES
Perfect for red-carpet glam and just as fitting for after party fun, were the effortless yet chic tousled waves of Naomi Watts.

Get-the-Look:
After blow drying using Joico’s Power Whip whipped foam from root through mid-shaft and ends, into the hair to protect and smooth, add a side part that’s just a bit off from center. Take about 1/2 inch in diameter subsections and wrap around a barrel curling iron, hold for about 5 seconds. Unwrap without dropping the hair from your hand. Slightly pull down the hair from the ends to relax the curl and get a much looser wave. Continue throughout the entire head. Use a bit of Joico Matte Grip emulsified on the palm of your hands, adding it through the hair in a raking motion to give that “piece-y” look. Finally spray Joico Humidity Blocker to block any frizz, so your “piece-y” waves are still shaped and perfect for a red-carpet night.

TIP: “Adding the ear tuck gives the look that perfect amount of chicness that is to be expected on the red carpet – it’s something so simple, yet it can change the look and feel of the style entirely!,” reveals Jonathan.
