Five New Haircolor Looks to Try with Joico’s Denis de Souza

From pure platinum and sexy cocoa tones, to catch-the-light-copper and much more, intensely rich hair-color is hitting the big-time this season, says superstar celebrity colorist, Denis de Souza.

“Fall is not the time to be wishy-washy; you need shades that stand up –even contrast– to the deeper, darker clothing we’ll be seeing over the next few months.” What’s more, those colors will be amped-up with extreme gleam; a healthy shine that shows off a coif to best advantage.

Read on for Denis’s full rundown on the hottest looks for this cooler season…

FALL TREND #1: PLATINUM LEVEL
“It started gaining popularity slowly this summer, but now platinum is officially one of the boldest hair colors for autumn and winter,” says superstar colorist, Denis de Souza of this decidedly edgy, icy look. Created purely with bleach and toner –it’s totally solid, rather than piece-y– these high-lift ‘dos provide the perfect contrast to the starker, darker fashions of fall. One extraordinary way to set off the intense look: by wearing deep, smoky eye shadow and the boldest lip possible. To keep the brass away from platinum, Denis reaches for Joico’s Color Endure Violet Sulfate-Free Shampoo and Conditioner… a formula that banishes oxidized yellowing and maintains your cool color.

FALL TREND #2: PURE COCOA
How low can you go? That’s the question for brunettes, whose rich, brown color will be on the hit list for fall. Unlike the multi-dimensional caramels of seasons past, superstar colorist, Denis de Souza, explains that the newest tones are rich, deep, and boldly monochromatic. “I’m adding tons of lowlights to refresh brunette hair that’s faded from summer sun, and create extreme shine at the same time.” To amp up that gleam factor even more: Joico’s Gold Dust Shimmer Finishing Spray, with light-reflecting, rose-gold particles that deliver serious shimmer in a single spritz.

FALL TREND #3: COPPER TOPS
Let’s be clear: We’re not talking about deep, dark auburn; nor magenta-tinged tones of toast. Red hair this fall is just that-brilliant, lustrous, bright, catch-the-light copper (if you need a visual, just picture musician-model Karen Elson, who rocks the brave look). Although not generally for the faint at heart, this rosy ‘do can actually be a fun and easy transition from summer blonde, says superstar colorist, Denis de Souza, who explains that it softens pale skin without any stark, Morticia-like contrast. To keep the copper bright and shiny, Joico’s Color Infuse Red Shampoo and Conditioner (coming soon!) brims with nourishing crimson tones.

FALL TREND #4: BLONDE SOPHISTICATE
Elegant, gleaming, gold… gorgeous. That’s how we’d describe the warm, blonde highlights that came sashaying down the runways for fall. “Forget the overly-highlighted, monochromatic summer “fade” and focus now on a softer, richer blonde mix,” says superstar colorist, Denis de Souza, of this hallmark Hollywood look that’s achieved by creating depth with the addition of lowlights. “Not only does it give the impression of dimension, but by working in darker pieces, this blonde ends up being versatile and low-maintenance,” he explains. To keep the gleam intact despite the rigors of heat-styling tools, turn to Joico’s new IronClad Thermal Protectant Spray – the ultimate safeguard to delicate tresses.

FALL TREND #5: TWO-TONE TRESSES
Last year’s Ombre –that crazy-popular light-meets-dark ‘do– has been upstaged by superstar colorist, Denis de Souza’s brilliantly chill version, known to insiders as “Sombre.” We say upstaged, because it hit the runways big-time this fall, showing off a new subtle side of the gradual, caramel/blonde combo, and taking fashion week by storm. Characterized by darker roots and paler ends that seem to blend seamlessly into each other, Sombre’s the low-maintenance little sister that’s perfect for those cool-weather months. Joico’s favorite way to keep those lighter locks protected? With Joico’s Heat Set Blow Dry Perfecting Crème, designed to hold, detangle, de-frizz, and nourish in one fell swoop.
