High Fashion and Fabulous Hair at the 2014 Met Ball

Saturday, 10 May 2014 12:44

The 2014 Met Ball's theme this year was “Charles James: Beyond Fashion,” a blast from the past with stars stepping out in extravagant 20th-century-inspired ensembles and ball gowns.

As always, the celebrities did their own particular interpretation, through their ensembles and hairstyles. It's easy to see why the red carpet of the Metropolitan Museum of New York was filled with celebrities parading in striking and original outfits – because of Charles James' design process. He focused on the use of sculptural, scientific, and mathematical approaches to construct revolutionary ball gowns and innovation tailoring that still continues to influence the most famous designers today.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Co-Chair of the gala along with actor Bradley Cooper, proved to yet again be one of the most daring at the ball, with a her hair worn as a high bow, decorated with white flowers. Many of our favorite celebrities wore their hair in a classic collected hairstyle, full of glamour. Just to name a few: Kirsten Dunst, Claire Danes, Diane Kruger, and Karlie Kloss... collected hairstyles always look so classy it's easy to see why it's a go-to for so many celebrities on one of Fashion's biggest nights out.

Another popular hairstyle of the night were retro waves, Veronica Lake-style! Taylor Swift, Cara Delevingne, and Blake Lively all wore their hair in cascading waves. We also loved the braids we saw on the red carpet! Celebrities Emma Stone and Joan Smalls wore their airy braids to the side.

Among the surprises of the night, there were some radical changes in terms of celebrities "looks": Kristen Stewart left her chestnut brown hair and debuted her red-hair. Zoe Kravitz showed off her new platinum blond 'do and probably the most shocking of the night was Nicole Richie, who dyed her locks purple! Which look was your favorite of the night?
