David Antunes’ 4 Steps to Spring, Prom and Wedding Season's 'Must Have' Look

Wednesday, 23 April 2014 15:25

Celebrity Stylist David Antunes says prom and wedding season's "must have" look is Old Hollywood Glamour. "Old Hollywood glamour hairstyles can be easily recreated into more modern looks", says David.

"Many top celebrities have made these classic retro hairstyles into a popular trend, and you can try the following red-carpet worthy hairstyles at home."

This Old Hollywood look of Side Swept Waves is highly luxurious and extremely graceful. To achieve this hairstyle, create a side part and curl loose waves throughout the tresses. Pull back the side with less hair and pin with decorative hair accessory on the side of the head. Allow the opposite side to fall around the face. The 2014 update is to keep it softer and less perfect looking.

To get David Antunes' modern twist on this classic ‘do, follow these four quick and easy tips:

1. After shampooing apply your choice of a Leave-In Treatment and Heat Protector from shaft to end. Apply a Volumizer Root Lifter to your roots and an Argan Oil to your ends. Before blow-drying create a side part, the more dramatic the better.

2.
Section the hair and blow-dry your hair to a smooth finish and keep in mind not to use a flat iron. This look cannot be created if you straighten your hair.

3.The most important element is the set. Start with a one-inch square section. With a large or medium barrel curling iron, horizontally curl your hair from ends to roots. Create big loose curls (remember to go over and under) curling them over and on top will create a flip – not the kind of look you’re going for! Then slide off the barrel and spritz your hair lightly with hairspray. Continue curling all of your hair in one-inch sections. Don’t worry much about the back—just make it smooth with a slight wave. Your main focus is the front, face-framing sections.

TIP: Make sure all sections are curled back in the same direction. It’s all about getting a uniform pattern in your hair.

4.Once you are done with your curls, on the same side as your part, tuck hair behind ear. Next smooth curls using a bore bristle and nylon combo brush. To avoid a scary big hair look, try my technique: spray the brush with hairspray, then in one big swoop, brush hair back in the same direction. Not only will this keep your hair from poofing out poodle-style, it also tames any flyaways. This way, all of your hair is smoothed into one pattern.
Pin back some of the waves in the back, to add an extra look you may finish by adding a diamond brooch or pretty hair clip. Spray the hair thoroughly again and you’re done!
