Flawless Buns by Guido for Dolce&Gabbana, Prada & Roberto Cavalli

Redken Creative Consultant Guido created flawless hair looks for Milan’s Fashion Week (MFW), here’s the scoop on ‘How To Get That Look’ from the Prada, Roberto Cavalli, and Dolce&Gabbana shows.

The hair for Prada is actually identical to the look Redken Creative Consultant Guido created for the eight women that were featured in the men’s show. The Fall/Winter 2014 women’s wear show was meant to be a continuation or a second act to the men’s show, so the continuity of the hairstyles helped bridge the two collections together. Guido coated the hair from root to ends with Flex Move Ability 05 and then used his hands, rather than a comb, to gather the hair into a low, tight bun.

“The Prada look features a very basic idea of hair. The ballerina-esque bun is minimal, imperfect and really shows off the model’s unique features. I was inspired by Visconti films and ballerina dancers, who are often incredibly elegant but severe in many ways. Dancers always work with severity, which is why there is tightness to the hairstyle. Each of these girls is their own character, and I think the performance hair and makeup, paired with the Prada collection, makes it seem as if the dancers have changed their clothing, but left their hair and makeup untouched. There is something very elegant and sophisticated about this narrative,” said Guido.

Guido created a messy wet knot, which is fitting for the inherently sexy Cavalli woman. Shine Flash 02 glistening mist was liberally applied to give a wet shine finish to the hair. Once the knot was fastened in the back, Guido sprayed Forceful 23 super strength hairspray to give the hair some form to the mess. It is sexy, uncomplicated and completely Cavalli.

“The Cavalli look is sexy hair in an easy way. For this style to work on the runway, it can’t be over complicated. I sprayed Shine Flash 02 glistening mist all over the hair to make it wet looking. You really need a generous amount of product to achieve this style. Once the hair is coated, rake the hair back with your fingers and twist into a messy knot. For this show, the knot is positioned a bit higher to account for the high collars, but it also makes the style younger and carefree. A lower position always feels more serious and austere,” said Guido.

 Create the Look:

  1. 1. Allow hair to dry naturally
  2. 2. Section by section, apply Shine Flash 02 glistening mist from root to ends
  3. 3. Rake hair back with fingers and pull hair into a messy knot
  4. 4. Spray Forceful 23 super strength finishing spray directly on the crown and slightly pull hair out to create a messy finish

Guido swept the hair up in a classic Dolce&Gabbana manner, which is synonymous with soft, romantic and truly elegant style. In order to achieve this airy quality to the hair, Guido used Body Full Volume Amplifier and a spritz of Pillow Proof Blowdry two day extender before twisting the braid into a soft updo. Regardless of the season, the Dolce&Gabbana look is always feminine and beautiful.

“I created a soft, ethereal hairstyle that was respectful of the way the designers have defined the Dolce&Gabbana woman. I used a very small amount of products to give the hair some friction and texture, but where it still felt soft. Once the hair was pinned back, I pulled out a few tendrils to add even more softness around the face. Dolce&Gabbana always take a soft approach to women’s beauty, said Guido.
