Get the NYFW Look: Jeremy Scott's Subtle & Textured Diversity by Eugene Souleiman

Sunday, 09 September 2018 07:32

Post-self and past-self, Jeremy Scott’s latest collection is an homage to his heritage but one which insists on looking forward. Not quite 90s, not quite the 2000’s either, the look answers important questions about what it means to live in the post-millennial age. His inspiration is himself, in this “meta-muse”, gender-fluid tribute.

For Wella Professionals Global Creative Director of Care & Styling and ghd Fashion Week Ambassador Eugene Souleiman, creating hair to accompany such eclectic, clearly personal designs is no easy feat. On his inspiration for the look, Eugene says “I believe that true craftmanship should be invisible, I want the hair to honor the collection, it’s a new glamour, a different kind of glamour… one that harks back to the 90s but is very current, very now.

What Eugene loved about this particular show is the diversity in the cast. For Eugene, “gone are the days where you create one look and roll it out on your models, it’s much more personal now. It’s about the model, their hair type and the collection. Fashion is no longer about what’s in and what’s not, it’s about personality, demeanor and the individual.”

Though difficult to pin down one distinct style in Eugene’s looks, Eugene used “90s supermodels” as his hairspiration. The 90s says Eugene were all about “women feeling strong and power-dressing.” Eugene said he “really wanted to bring through the power in the hair. There’s a new femininity around and with it, a very different glamour, which is very cool.”

For the more refined looks, Eugene relied on Wella Professionals EIMI Perfect Me, lightweight beauty balm lotion, designed to create a natural style with smoothness to add shine, tame fly-aways and protect hair from heat styling. Then Eugene topped off the look with a spritz of Wella Professionals EIMI Glam Mist, the perfect lightweight shine spray that provides luminous shine and protects hair from humidity and UV.

Using the ghd Platinum+ Styler, the world’s first ‘smart’ styler, which contains ultra-zone technology, allowed Eugene to perfect the invisible but technical subtlety in texture he was aiming for.
