Michael Haase Blog: Hair Trends – What's in store for 2015?

With every change of the seasons and every flip of the calendar, new styles hit the streets and new trends gain traction...

Style watchers’ heads are already well past the holidays and we’re getting glimpses of what will be ho-ho-hot for 2015. Let’s take a look at what we can expect to see in the areas of length, color and style in the new year.

LENGTH. Hair fashion for 2015 certainly has been waiting for new lengths and shapes, but the recent pixie hype is expected to hold as short hair girls continue the trend with full enthusiasm. On the other end of the spectrum, long hair is becoming more slender in its weight, allowing those ladies to keep length and style options as well as the sense of security longer locks provide for some.  

COLOR. The Spring/Summer trend for the new year is, for the first time in a long while, taking on a life of its own as a design element. Rather than loud “look at me” colors, soft pastels and muted, smoky and warm tones are dominating the day in their own right. Designers have a fantastic way of blending texture with color, and as such the “fabric” of hair will complement the shapes and colors of design.

STYLE. On any given day the beauty of an “updo” is the most sexy of styles even if attempted in the most elemental way. Creating that small twist in the midrange of the back of the head is something all girls of fashion should know, and 2015 is the time to own it. Take two sections, one from each side of the head, and place a simple knot on each section once or twice. Then twist the sections toward each other at the back of the head. A few pins or a small fabric band should do the trick to secure a beautiful tailed chignon. Release a few pieces for a simple yet elegant, richly undone feeling. Just like a fantastic pair of jeans or shoes, this style is perfect dressed up or down! [Watch the video below!]

Of course, hair artists and stylists on the front lines help us monitor trends running hot and cold, so when the ball drops on 2015 we can’t wait to hear what starts to fizzle and what creates a frenzy.
