Moroccanoil at NYFW 2012

Antonio Corral Calero, Moroccanoil Artistic Director was inspired by felines, for better or for worse, when he created the strong graphic and elegantly sensual look for the Catherine Malandrino fall-winter collection.

Catherine’s clothes are boldly feminine and we wanted to create hair that reflected this sophistication and strength,” said Corral Calero. “The hair looks were also inspired by the feline mystery of the 1980’s film Cat People.”

This dramatic look especially featured a flowing contrast of two different finishes and textures. Glossy, volumized, curved wave patterns from the top of the head were sleeked down along the sides before transforming into stark stick-like shiny locks flowing down the back.

“Well-conditioned, healthy hair is essential for this look,” explained Antonio.  He began with a cocktail di Moroccanoil Treatment or Moroccanoil Treatment Light (depending on the hair type and color) combined with  Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream worked into damp hair.

Then he dried and smoothed the hair with the larger Moroccanoil Ionic Ceramic Brush , lifting at the roots to create more volume.

New Moroccanoil Volumizing Mousse (which will be available in hair salons and spas beginning late fall 2012) was massaged  into the hair until absorbed to create a sleek base and to prepare it for the next steps. The hair was then finger-combed from top down to separate the strands to give a sense of contrast and depth. The sides were slicked and then finger-combed as well.

A hairdryer was used to lift soft waves from the root and then dried in place. The raised strands were crossed at the crown to give more height and volume. To keep hair under control at the back, each section was smoothed with a flat iron to eliminate fly-aways and frizz before finishing with Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray for an overall glow.
