Wednesday, 01 October 2014 16:00

Estetica was thrilled to join the Aveda Family this past Sunday in Cincinatti for the Aveda Mid-America Show, and we’re excited to share with you all of the highlights!

Aveda pros celebrate the craft of hairdressing by showcasing new techniques on stage in Cincinnati, Ohio, September 28th 2014. The company proudly concluded a memorable day of performances and technical presentations led by the Aveda Global Artistic Team and Aveda Guest Artists from North America at the Aveda Mid-America Show, a celebration of hairdressing for salon professionals designed to inspire and educate with technical and creative presentations, while fostering a deep sense of connection to Aveda’s heritage of distinctive artistry and environmental responsibility. Over 1800 regional stylists and salon owners attended the event with over 400 stylists staying on for an extra day of technical workshops.

Highlights from the show day included presentations from:

Ray Civello, President of Aveda Canada: Civello and the Aveda Canada team kicked off the day with a three-segment show designed to break boundaries, liberate and incite change entitled 'Sustainable Human'. Models emerged wearing ornate, white floral-inspired headdresses on top of perfectly crafted styles.

Janell Geason, Aveda Global Artistic Director, Makeup: Inspired by 'Night Bloom' – her personal collection that was a finalist at the 2014 North American Hairstyling Awards– Geason showcased looks using new shades from Aveda’s Romantic Grandeur Collection and created a stunning seasonal smoky eye using colors from Aveda’s limited-edition Twinkling Eyes Holiday Collection palette.

Ian Michael Black, Aveda Global Artistic Director, Hair Color: The world-traveling Black drew inspiration for his performance from the Massai people of East Africa who use different shades of mud to color particular sections of hair. Black's presentation also was influenced by Alexander McQueen and the amazing accessories & designs from the Thai culture.

Tippi Shorter, Aveda Global Artistic Director, Textured Hair: As one of the most sought-after hair stylists for textured hair in the entertainment and beauty industries, Shorter demonstrated how to transform wavy/curly/coily textures into a series of sleek styles.

Ricardo Dinis, Aveda Global Artistic Director, Hair Cutting: Through artistry and technical expertise, Dinis’s performance highlighted sculptural haircuts inspired by a stark Icelandic landscape scattered with glaciers – the results were cuts featuring strong shapes and lines with superb detailing.

Allen Ruiz, Aveda Global Artistic Director, Hair Styling: Ruiz closed out the artistic presentations with Chameleon Stealth – featuring models morphed into reptilian goddesses with serpentine shaped hairstyles fused together with snake patterns and crimped textures.

Other amazing artists featured on stage were Jon Reyman, who shared with the audience some incredible cutting styles and countless tips & tricks that he used for New York Fashion Week; and the men's grooming presentation by Tim Howard, that was greatly influenced by the FIFA World Cup and pop-rock band looks.

An Aveda’s NEW Cut & Style Curriculum sneak peek was revealed –this is the most complete haircutting education online ever presented by Aveda– which will allow students to learn their cutting techniques 24/7 with a special emphasis on body position. It was presented on stage by Ricardo Dinis, Tristin Morrison and Ray Civello.

As Aveda is dedicated to the art of beautiful hair with an environmental conscience, the day was punctuated with a presentation by Pat Peterson, Aveda Vice President of Research and Development who spoke about “how plants are Aveda’s best chemists,” and a moment of wellness from Shivnath Tandon, Aveda Tribal Elder, who spoke about the process of evolution and the importance of embracing change.

Last but not least, Aveda shared a very touching tribute to Aveda’s founder Horst Rechelbacher with the audience, explaining how his mission is still Aveda's vision and motivation nowadays.
