Safe Face LA / JPMS Director of Events Crafts Face Masks to Help Stop The Spread of Covid-19

Friday, 24 April 2020 18:42

Have you ever wondered who the creative mastermind was behind all of the elaborate and imaginative costumes as seen on Paul Mitchell stages around the world? Allow us to introduce you to Alona Hamoy, a 20 year veteran of John Paul Mitchell Systems and current Director of Events.

Since 2000, Alona has long been a JPMS road warrior having participated in over 250 shows and events both nationally and internationally. Her talents stretch far beyond managing and producing events on behalf of the company, she also moonlights as the lead for wardrobe design crafting unique creations for Paul Mitchell Gatherings and shows bringing the visions of Robert Cromeans, Angus Mitchell and all JPMS Artistic Directors to life.

Over the last few weeks, she has evolved her talents by dedicating her time to a more unexpected piece of wardrobe, the face mask.

Created less than two weeks ago, Safe Face LA became a new labor of love for JPMS Director of Events, Alona Hamoy and Los Angeles Independent Designer, Jessica Darwin. Since the inception of the company, Safe Face LA has donated to local area hospitals, restaurants and assisted living facilities.

Everything I have made for our Paul Mitchell shows is truly a labor of love, and I have so many favorites from over the years! At the start of the shelter-at-home order, I began sewing fabric masks to donate to local healthcare facilities, but it quickly became apparent that there was going to be a need for the general public to wear face coverings as well. I partnered with my friend Jessica to help meet the rising demand. We wanted to help fill what was becoming a basic need for the general public, while at the same time helping to generate funds to be able to keep supporting the people on the front lines with more masks. We found that people are happy to contribute to a great cause, and the sense of community has been overwhelming,” says
Alona Hamoy, John Paul Mitchell Systems Director of Events.

Safe Face LA is delivering bright and clever design elements to bring joyfulness to a serious situation. By adding special pins as optional removeable accessories that can be changed daily; you can pin on a smile, a pair of lips, or even a cartoonish mustache to brighten a stranger’s day. The hope is when we are no longer wearing masks anymore, you can have cute reusable pins for your jacket.

To help support their community give back efforts, Safe Face LA is now accepting fabric donations. For every two yards of fabric donated, you will receive one free mask (up to 10 total). Fabric should be a woven cotton, non-stretch. All fabric donations will be used to produce masks to gift to high risk healthcare groups.
