2013 Tribute Show in London: highest caliber of hairstyling!

Wednesday, 23 October 2013 10:23

London Tribute Show took place last weekend in the sumptuous gilt surroundings of the historic Edwardian "Novello Theatre" in the West End.

This year the Tribute Show 2013  was in 5 acts, with creative presentations of the very highest calibre thanks to some of hairdressing's finest session stylists and educators - each of whom captivated the audience with an up-close and informal 20-minute slot.

Editor and Publisher of Tribute Magazine, Nicky Pope kicked off the event before handing the show over to be emceed by industry legend, Robert Lobetta. Special celebrity appearances included Trevor Sorbie, who introduced Johanna Cree Brown, a member of his own Artistic Team. Other members of this star-studded cast were Mark Hayes, Zoe Irwin, Tim Hartley and Gary Hooker & Michael Young. Each captivating presentation was as individual as it was spectacular.

With entertaining style, warmth, humor as well as an avant-garde touch added by a double bass player and a DJ., the Tribute Show was a master-class of hairdressing elegance and purity:

Mark Hayes: Mark shared his love of contrast between short and long lengths, recalling Robert Lobetta’s advice to him: “Fortune favors the brave!” The hair story evolved with wonderful evocations to Mark’s themes of ‘sartorial dandies’ and ‘subculture suedeheads’

Zoe Irwin: Zoe talked about the remix of braids from Native American origins to include today’s psychedelic color popping variations. Contemporary references included Sienna Millar’s recent braid story. Zoe's encore referenced Studio 54 and the culture clash that transformed the original afro into the white girl’s ‘disco frizz’.

Johanna Cree Brown: Johanna grasped the power of pins, drawing on punk for inspiration and an energetic approach. Futuristic styles came to life with streamlined shapes inspired by shoe design, 3-D art, architecture and nature. Johanna's eye for detail and stage presence made for a brilliant performance.

Tim Hartley: Tim demonstrated how the cult of the cut is back, living up to his reputation of “expect the unexpected and Mr. Hartley will never disappoint!

Hooker & Young: Eight years ago, Gary and Michael embarked on a venture to master the art of long hair. Now with classical precision they echo their inspirational greats of Alexandre de Paris and Jean Luc Minetti. Vibrant, enchanting, and state-of-the-art.
