The Gift of Giving Back: Farouk Systems Donates to the Tribal Tuneup

Hairdressers donate their time to help Seniors after the tragedy that occurred at Santa Fe High School in Texas providing beauty makeovers for their graduation.

In May of this year, tragedy hit the rural town of Santa Fe, TX leaving a community devasted with grief. But, one concerned and carrying hairstylist named Marco Hinojosa, a former graduate of the school, felt a need to bring a sense of normalcy back to his community by coordinating beauty makeovers for the schools’ over 250 high school seniors for their upcoming graduation. The name Tribal Tuneup was created by Marco to reflect the school’s mascot which reflect our country’s American Indians. This is where the “Tribal” element of the name came from.

To accomplish his goal, he reached out to everyone he knew asking to help or give something in order to make this all happen. Marco secured 25 hairstylists and 20 barbers for a day of glam. He also reached out to Farouk Systems, Inc. asking for any styling tools or products which were shipped out to help each stylist and barber. The company sent out CHI, BioSilk and Esquire products and tools as well as gift bags and raffle items to raise money totally over $11,000.

I thought it would be a nice way to give back and to have everyone come together in a positive/fun way prior to graduation,” says Marco Hinojosa.

According to Dr. Farouk Shami, “There are no words when such senseless tragedies take place, but it was an honor to help a fellow hairdresser help others.”
