All Femme: Barbering Female Stars take the Stage @ The Barberella Reload!

All the BARBER ladies, please put your hands up! Six of the world’s top female barbers empowered and inspired hundreds of hair pros with their tips, tricks and techniques at The Barberella Reload, which took place at Thunder Studios in Long Beach, California!

The event not only reinforced how in-demand barbering education is, but also showcased how today’s female barbers are an explosive success in providing quality education and inspiration to more than 350 attendees who came to the event’s second installment!

The groundbreaking women were Stay Gold (Sofie Pok), Pope the Barber, Hayden Cassidy, Tori Gill, Sally Rogerson and Taylor Leven. Then we had the notorious Kevin Luchmun, award-winning barber and photographer from London, on the mic as well as Liz Diaz and Julz Coda of Beyond Beauty School, who emceed the event.

The true strength of the evening was the empowerment the show provided — though this was not only limited to the attendees. “It was empowering to be in a room full of ladies who have so much thirst for education in a male-dominated industry,” says Pok. Show organizer Pete Nguyen of Attachment agrees. “Our mission is to empower, cultivate and celebrate female barbering talent through education,” he explains. “The goal is to make Barberella a community platform to share knowledge, learn skills and give back to both the greater population as well as the local community where each event is held.”

Attendees also learned more from the show’s sponsors, including Mizutani Scissors, Takara Belmont, Portland Razor Company, Victory Brands, Wella School Program, JRL, Stillhouse Whiskey, The Fresh Yard, Beyond Beauty School, Filterless and Attachment, among others.

The event used its pull to contribute to charity, making a night of education and fun helpful to more than the industry it represents. More than $5,000 generated from bar sales went to support Saints of
Steel (@saintsofsteel), a non-profit group that partners with other organizations to help people experiencing homelessness, underserved families and those displaced in the LGBTQ+ community a multifaceted approach toward employment and reconnection with loved ones. Saints of Steel
transforms lives through haircuts to produce a level of confidence that encourages participants to activate the journey towards economic stability.

Plans are now underway to bring The Barberella to a global audience. However, American demand may very well mean another U.S. show will crop up, so stay tuned.

Our goal is to continue to grow The Barberella into other cities around the world,” Nguyen says. “The next show is in Tokyo, then London and hopefully a week-long show in Sydney and Melbourne.
