Hot News! Candy Shaw named ‘Woman of the Year’ & ‘Female Entrepreneur of the Year’

Tuesday, 27 June 2017 13:39

Celebrity hair stylist Candy Shaw, CEO and founder of Sunlights Balayage and the stylist credited with starting today’s Balayage Revolution, has been named both ‘Female Entrepreneur of the Year’ and ‘Woman of the Year’ – in the ‘Women Helping Women’ category by the 2017 ‘Women in Business & The Professions World Awards

The black-tie, red carpet Awards Ceremony took place at the historic Mark Hopkins Hotel in San Francisco, California on Monday, 26 June 2017. The Awards are sponsored by Silicon Valley.

Fondly referred to as ‘The Balay Lama’, Shaw is regarded as the world’s foremost authority on balayage education (a/k/a ‘hair painting’). She has nurtured thousands of stylists, predominately women, during her illustrious career. Her three-year-young company, Sunlights Balayage, is the maker and purveyor of the world’s leading balayage products and education. Shaw is also the owner of Atlanta’s 50-chair, 5,000 square foot Jamison Shaw Hairdressers. "I’m a hairdresser. I never went to college. I never even went to beauty school. So to be honored tonight for helping other women, alongside all these ‘Captains of Industry’, is pretty ‘darn’ incredible," said Candy in her acceptance speech.

With over 35 years experience behind the chair, Shaw started Sunlights with two goals in mind. First, to significantly increase stylists’ (who are 84% women in America) productivity by helping them work ‘smarter not harder’. Second, to significantly decrease the environmental impact that hairdressing has on the planet. Today Sunlights is available in eight countries.

Shaw’s had an eventful year. In addition to being named ‘Female Entrepreneur of the Year’ and ‘Woman of the Year’; Shaw was also named ‘Maverick of the Year’; ‘Start-Up of the Year’ at Cosmoprof’s ‘Beauty Pitch’; and the 2017 recipient of the ‘Jerry Gordon Salon Business Leadership Award’.

Lisa Colhoun, the Sunlights Artisan Educator for Silicon Valley, accompanied Candy for the Awards Ceremony. Some of the other companies being honored include IBM, AT&T, Nestle, Volkswagen, and AFLAC. The Women World Awards trophies are made by the same company that makes the Oscars® and the Emmys®.
