The Fifth Annual Beauty Changes Lives Experience, held on Sunday, March 26, during America’s Beauty Show by Cosmetologists Chicago, paid tribute to Matrix co-founders Sydell and Arnold Miller – a couple who revolutionized the professional beauty industry. The gala also celebrated and raised funds to support the NEXT GENERATION of beauty and wellness professionals.

The evening began with a VIP dinner honoring Sydell and Arnold (Arnie) Miller, the first co-recipients of the Legacy Award. Established in 2012, the Legacy award recognizes icons whose careers defined a commitment to professional beauty education. Previous honorees include Vidal Sassoon, Tippi Hedren, Leo Passage and Howard Murad, MD.

We are incredibly honored to present the Legacy Award to the Millers,” said Beauty Changes Lives Foundation President Lynelle Lynch. “Together, Sydell and Arnold exemplified artistry, entrepreneurial spirit and branding savvy, ultimately redefining professional products used in the salon environment. As the Matrix brand grew and evolved, Sydell and Arnold showed their commitment to education throughout a hairstylist’s career journey by founding the Matrix Institute of Professional Development, ultimately enriching the careers of thousands of salon professionals.

A marketing powerhouse and brand visionary, Sydell Miller continued to provide guidance and leadership to the organization following Arnold’s passing in 1992. She has also served as Chairperson of the Board of Directors for SalonQuest, the company that produces Aquage and Biomega Haircare.

The Sunday evening timing of this year’s Beauty Changes Lives Experience commemorated the event as the signature party during America’s Beauty Show. Paul Dykstra, CEO of America’s Beauty Show by Cosmetologists Chicago put his musical talents on display, taking a brief seat at the piano as guests arrived for the Legacy dinner. “We are happy to witness the growth of this annual industry event and support the Beauty Changes Lives Experience as the signature Sunday evening event at ABS17,” he said, adding, “We are also honored to recognize and celebrate the tremendous legacy of Sydell and Arnie Miller.”
