Rusk’s North American Team at Cosmoprof Bologna

Nothing dampens the spirits of international visitors to Rusk’s spectacular stage-stand

A cutting-edge stand designed to offer visitors the opportunity to follow the creative process from concept to coif hosted an international team of creative artists eager to mingle and inspire hairdressing professionals visiting Cosmoprof, one of the largest trade fairs in this sector worldwide.

Estetica met with the North American creative team for Rusk, Senior Master Designer Samana Dube and Andor Bubelenyi and Don Wyatt of the Creative Team to gather their impressions of their experiences.

Don jumped right in saying how he was pleasantly surprised that the fair was less commercial that he had expected, actually focusing on education and inspiration. Indeed, the stand this year featured a “salon showcase” where the public could actually observe the artists at work at the Deepshine color bar before the actual stage presentations. And just outside of this “aquarium” make-up artists were stationed to work their magic on the models in plain sight.

What was the buzz about this year? Well for one, the European launch of the Being Sexy , the latest line of styling products – from shampoo to hairspray – for both in-salon and take-home care, with Fision Hair ingredients to revive the scalp and follicles for healthier hair.

Andor noticed plenty of interest in the recently launched Bespoke Collection, with four very different trends for the new season that can be interpreted in a variety of ways to suit any client.

Their take on the forthcoming trends? “Shorter cuts,” all three say in unison. And they are all enthusiastic, because for some hairdressers, cutting is reason for living. Don Wyatt says, “We’ll be seeing many more disconnected styles, contrasting lengths.”

And what color will these new short cuts be? Any color will be ok, but not very blocky or dramatic. There will be more subtlety, with very fine panels in tone-on-tone shades that will overlap to give more depth and dimension.

What role will ombré looks play? Wyatt believes this once innovative look will remain a die-hard, and continue to be requested by aficionados. But Andor Bubelenyi added that he believes it may evolve, perhaps moving more into a street culture, with young people doing DIY ombré at home with bolder colors.

Samana Dube also let us in on the scoop about upcoming renovations on her salon in Montréal , and has promised pics as soon as its done for a design feature.

So all in all, we have lots to look forward to!
