Salon Industry Leader Receives City of Hope’s Top Honor

Every year the City of Hope acknowledges an industry leader who has demonstrated outstanding business acumen and philanthropic goals by presenting the Spirit of Life® Award. This year, this prestigious honor will be awarded to Reuben Carranza, North American CEO fo Wella, the Salon Professional Division of P&G.

Carranza has decided to direct funds raised during his Spirit of Life campaign toward City of Hope’s cutting-edge research in diabetes, a disease that Carranza knows all too well, after having seen the devastating effect that diabetes had on his mother and his aunt, both hairdressers, as they struggled to continue to work behind the chair.

“I’m proud to support City of Hope and the groundbreaking diabetes research being conducted there. City of Hope is an organization that is committed to creating longer and healthier lives for our salon professionals,” said Carranza. “I’m humbled and honored to receive The Spirit of Life Award and be recognized by my peers in the beauty industry – all of whom believe that City of Hope’s lifesaving research improves the quality of life for our hairdressers and for people around the world.”

Since joining P&G in 1990, Carranza has held various high-profile positions, and is often credited for integrating Clairol and Nioxin into Wella’s portfolio, and for setting the stage for the comeback of two timeless salon brands, Sebastian Professional and Wella Koleston Perfect. Carranza's altruistic commitments include serving as an active member on the boards of the City of Hope National Professional Salon Industry, Beauty Changes Lives, and the Professional Beauty Association.

“We are privileged to honor Reuben Carranza, whose extraordinary vision and innovation has redefined the beauty industry,” said Britta Bucholz, City of Hope, Sr. Director of Philanthropy. “It is fitting that he receive The Spirit of Life Award, which recognizes an honoree’s outstanding leadership and contributions to the community and his profession.”
