Bravo Balay Lama! Sunlights Balayage Wins & Wows at Beauty Pitch 2016

The Sunlights Family is on fire! The education-based, everything-balayage brand founded by celebrity stylist and balayage guru, Candy Shaw aka ‘The Balay Lama,’ competed live on-stage last night before +1,000 beauty pros in this year’s Beauty Pitch competition to conquer the 1st prize in the Startup Business Category.

In celebration of the entrepreneurial spirit of the beauty industry, the Professional Beauty Association (PBA) & Cosmoprof North America (CPNA) celebrated the live event during the INSPIRE gala in collaboration with City of Hope, allowing six finalists to compete in two different categories: Startup Business & Established Business. The following companies were presenting live last night at the Beauty Pitch 2016 stage:

Startup Business Category:

The finalists had the unique opportunity to pitch their brand, products and ideas to an esteemed panel of judges including industry legend John Paul DeJoria, Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board, John Paul Mitchell Systems & The Patron Spirits Company; Kevin Harrington, CEO, Kevin Harrington Enterprises; Deanne Kaczerski, Executive Director, InStyle Digital Innovation, Time Inc.; Mark Spinks, President of CosmoProf and Armstrong McCall, Sally Beauty Holdings; and Emily Dougherty, Beauty Director, Elle Magazine.

While Sunlights Balayage grabbed the gold in the Startup Business Category, P3Pure won the 1st prize as Established Business. As the Startup Business Winners, Sunlights Balayage was presented with a $5,000 cash prize awarded by category sponsor Harlan Kirschner of The Kirschner Group and will potentially benefit of cash infusion from a network of affiliated angel investors and new distribution leads from project partners.

Sunlights Balayage, the ONLY hair care company in the competition, and the youngest company in the event, was selected as a WINNER in part due to its phenomenal growth.

Last year, in its second year in business, over the span of just 100 days, Sunlights Balayage signed up a ‘Who’s-Who A-list’ of top North American distributors covering 45 U.S. states and 7 Canadian provinces. Having obtained its E.U. Certification this year, Sunlights is in the process of launching the company worldwide, including Scandinavia, Australia and New Zealand, and Russia in the second half of the year.  Sunlights was recently described by one top industry publication as “the world’s fastest growing, most recognizable hair color brand!” Another described Shaw as one of the “most powerful and influential women in the professional beauty industry.”
