Beauty Changes Lives Foundation announces BCL|MUD Scholarship Winners

The Beauty Changes Lives Foundation just announced the winners of the inaugural BCL| MUD Make-up Scholarship. The scholarship is the first Beauty Changes Lives program focused exclusively on makeup artistry and awards $2,500 tuition scholarships to students enrolled in cosmetology or esthetics programs at qualified schools.

Spring 2016 BCL|MUD scholarship winners and their respective schools are as follows:

Katherine Kelly-Slaughter, Avenue Five Institute, Austin, TX
Latasha Coy, Bellus Academy, Manhattan, KS
Andrea Corbett, The Salon Professional Academy, Buffalo, NY
Angela Etherly, John Amico School of Hair Design, Oak Forest, IL
Lauren Lavigne, Andrews Academy, Taylor, UT

Winners were selected by a panel of industry professionals based on their video, inspiration board and essay submissions. Winner Katherine Kelly-Slaughter has carved out a successful business as a hairstylist and says her scholarship will help advance her career to a new level as a makeup artist and educator. “The more you grow professionally, the more you can pursue fashion, editorial and other opportunities,” she says, adding that she aspires to broaden her business to offer lesson-based services. “With MUD, I will have the most thorough makeup artistry education.

A military spouse and mother of four, Latasha Coy recently enrolled at Bellus Academy and is looking pursuing a dual-license program that will allow her to provide hair, and esthetics/make-up artistry services. “I’ve had a passion for using my art to help others feel better since I was a little girl and it’s so exciting to win this scholarship,” says Coy.

Angela Etherly is also a mother of four and said the scholarship shows her young sons how important education is to pursuing one’s goals and working toward a better life. “I want to help my sons see you can pursue your calling and create a better life,” Etherly says.

Lynelle Lynch, president of the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation says MUD Make-up Designory complements a robust coalition of brands that support Beauty Changes Lives. “We have been blessed to work with partners who share our passion of building next gen talent through the gift of education,” says Lynch. Other brands supporting Beauty Changes Lives scholarships include Wella and its Hairdressers at Heart program, CND, Murad LLC and MUD, Inc.

Tate Holland, CEO of MUD USA, is a second generation make-up professional, and said that professional product lines have a responsibility toward educating next gen talent as well as licensed professionals. “New formulations are creating opportunities for knowledgeable, skilled professionals to take makeup artistry to new levels. An important part of maximizing any product’s possibilities is ensuring the professional is trained in how to use the product for best effect,” Tate said.

Applications for the Fall 2016 BCL|MUD Scholarship will be accepted from July 25 to October 3, 2016. For more information on MUD scholarships please visit: www.beautychangeslives.org/scholarships
