Unbreakable Bonds at the Intercoiffure America/Canada Spring Atelier 2016

A great family of 480 members, composed of the best US & Canadian hairstylists of the world, gathered in the romantic tropic of Boca Raton, FL to have their annual Intercoiffure America/Canada Spring Atelier, and exchange the love and ideas that are affecting the world of beauty, fashion, business and technology that are having a resounding change in the salon business.

The event begun Sunday morning with a celebration led by Frank Gambuzza as President of Intercoiffure America/Canada (ICA), who reminded all attendees of the importance of being a family by celebrating the birthday of the legendary Jerry Gordon, who passed away recently and was the VP of Intercoiffure North America/Canada. Frank invited his wife Karen and son Tony to the stage and honored the guests with cupcakes and candles, reminding everyone that even after a member has passed, there is a special bond that cannot be broken within the organization.

Intercoiffure America/Canada Spring Atelier 2016 focused on creating a complete agenda of presentations, seminars and conferences to inspire while educating the members on polishing their skills and return on investment of various aspects in the salon industry.

David Kinigson and the David Kspace salon & academy creative education team, gave a spectacular presentation of their collection, “Artego, Beach, Beat, Boys & Bond Girls 4 Ever – History Repeats.”  Their show was a trip to the past with a truly modern interpretation on the styles. The images can be seen in the gallery below. The conversation continued with Industry icon George Papanikolas & Jennifer Yepes on Trending Celebrity techniques and the quick methods to create looks that do not damage the hair nearly as much as traditional methods. Ted Gibson & Jason Backe had a great discussion on Building a Brand whose extensive experience in their careers in working with L’Oréal and branding their own names as well.

With regards to conferences, the legendary Kathy Buckley, presented the “Your Life, our Choice”, talk who motivated and marveled all the professionals who made up the audience. There are no limitations, and having these types of lectures is always a valuable part to a healthy and ambitious mindset. In addition, the conference by Kelly Ehlers, provided valuable information and very interesting business tips to all attendees in her talk, “The Language of Social – How Social Media is Changing the Salon Industry” where her experience as president and founder of Ideas that Evoke gives her the perfect insight on how the beauty industry and social media is a place full of opportunity for salon professionals.

Also part of Sunday’s schedule was a Media panel composed of industry beauty editors of Modern Salon, Beauty Launchpad, American Salon, and Estetica USA’s editor Alejandra Acuña– to share how to best get featured by attendees and how being featured can affect business.

On Monday, there were two rooms in the exhibition hall that divided the fair into the Business Classes and the Hands-On Classes. The Business seminars were brilliant and featured Jay Beecher in “The Way to Financial Success“, Terri Wojak from Viviscal in “Through Thin and Thick… from Science to Style,” and Robert Heim & The Hairdreams Artistic Group, about their “Automatic Hair Applicator, Laserbeamer Nano“. But the person that simply filled the entire room was Van Council, who focused on his views of life, “Intentional Culture,” and how his principals are not only what got him to where he is, but also how these are still present at the moment of running his salons and coaching his team.

Intercoiffure America/Canada Spring Atelier 2016 closed Monday afternoon with Jeff South’s “Building Community” which addressed the very important role of belonging to the magnificent organization and how that can be extended to other parts of life, especially in the salon and the area which help ICA members’ business grow. In the other room, Van Council and the Van Michael Artistic Team lead a “Hands-On Cutting” seminar based on the Modern Disconnection centered on the edgier looks which have resulted in his prestigious role within the organization.

Intercoiffure America/Canada Spring Atelier 2016 was a brilliant event to remember… and now, save the date for Intercoiffure America/Canada Fall Atelier 2016 – October 8, 9 & 10th in New York!
