Get the Look: Blues Hues Braid

Saturday, 15 November 2014 23:23

Don’t stop plaiting yet, braids are still going strong for Spring/Summer 2015 – Michael Kors, Donna Karan, Sumo and Baja East featured disheveled, herringbone, rope and windblown versions...

Ruth Roche, Artistic Ambassador for Pureology Serious Colour Care, spins her latest style on short hair to compliment blue hues.

This blue color was just screaming for a braid, so I loosely French-braided it so it stood off the head enough to capture the deep hues closer to the scalp, while the lighter blues defined the surface, it’s like an Ombré braid,” explains Roche.

Note: This type of braid must be done on short hair, about 3” long, so it will rest above the scalp and showcase color from the base to ends.

  1. • Apply Pureology Root Lift by spraying lightly through damp hair and rough dry with hands to create volume and promote natural texture.
    • French-braid off the scalp, starting at the front of the head working towards the back, 3 strands –right over center, left over center, etc.– adding to each section each time.
    • At the end, gather hair into fingers and push all sections forward to make hair stand up off the scalp and to make the braid looser. Pin ends.
    • Finish with Pureology Colour Stylist Supreme Control high hold hairspray.

Other Tips for Making Braids Pop

  1. • Add texture by crimping/curling hair first or roughing up the finished braid.
  2. • Think shape over shape and add braids to a classic silhouette to bring it to life and add texture:
  3. • Use a colored ribbon as one of the sections to add interest.
