How To: Loose Textured Bridal Braid

Thursday, 12 July 2018 02:58

With trends moving towards more natural and lived-in textures, even brides are going for looser looks

Blending traditional shapes with eye catching details like a fishtail braid creates the "formal" element necessary in a bridal style, while infusing more disrupted edges brings a fresh and youthful side for today's clientele. Anna Peters, Sam Villa ArTeam, shares a how to create a loose textured bridal braid.

Loose Textured Bridal Braid
1. Create tons of volume and control with the Sam Villa Signature Series Textur Professional Texturizing Iron. Start at the nape and work up taking thin slices of hair. Spray each section with Redken Iron Shape 11 for heat protection and gently squeeze the Textur iron down the strands, throughout the entire head. A gentle squeeze keeps the texture subtle, while providing volume and control.
2. Brush through hair to soften texture and detangle with the Sam Villa Artist Series Finishing Brush.  Working off a center part, drop out a 2” section in the front hairline to the top of ear. Isolate with Sam Villa Dry Sectioning Clips.
3. Using the finishing brush, gently smooth the surface of hair back into a low ponytail at the nape of neck, pinch and pull to create full volume through crown and secure with elastic.
4. Smooth back the front two drop out sections and flatten along the head towards back ponytail, wrap around elastic and pin to secure.
5. Gently pull out face framing strands and curl loosely using the Sam Villa Artist Series 2-in-1 Marcel Curling Iron and Wand 1”. Create large loose curls in ponytail as well.
6. Take a 2” wide section from ponytail and prep with Redken Braid Aid 03.  Create a loose fishtail braid and secure with elastic.  Pull either side of braid gently to blouse.
7. Spray Redken Triple Take 32 for hold and touch ability.

This look is perfect for the bride who wants to look like herself and feel comfortable on her wedding day. The traditional shape makes it wedding worthy and the unexpected texture and braid are elements that keep the look youthful and fun,” says Peters.
