Bang Trim Turns into Bridal Consultation

Tuesday, 21 May 2013 10:57

Joi Rooks, KMS® California Artistic Team Member and owner of fresche salon (Atlanta, GA) recently turned a simple bang trim into a bridal consultation.

Catering to brides can be challenging, but it can also be a very cool creative outlet, given the right bride. So when Joi Rooks, KMS® California Artistic Team Member actually found that “special someone,” it turned into a creatively collaboration that gave Rooks creative license to thrill.

“Traci is one of my favorite brides ever! She didn't want the normal updo or classic style, but rather wanted her fun quirky personality to shine through on her special day. So vintage bangs were cut and retro waves were set,” explains Rooks whose bride was featured on TLS’s "Say Yes to the Dress" and in Atlanta Weddings Magazine.

“Traci, came to "try" me out for a bang trim. I begin every consultation asking questions about lifestyle, overall style, hair maintenance (what they're willing to do), personality and music they listen to. The bang "trim" took 30 minutes - not your average bangs or girl. During this time, we began talking about her wedding and her dress. The dress is called a convertible dress, starts out long for the ceremony and the bottom is removed for the reception after ~ this told me a lot about this bride.  We clicked, so we planned out the next 6 months of services leading up to her wedding - cut, color and trial runs for hair and make-up,” explained Rooks.

Joi kept the bride’s color a simple milk chocolate base with espresso mixed in. Rooks used KMS® California FREESHAPE® hot flex creme to blow hair out smooth and then used KMS® California FREESHAPE® hot flex spray for thermal styling. The set was done by dropping it below her recession and setting large barrel curls. KMS® California Silk Sheen® styling creme was used to break the set up with hands before finishing off with KMS® California HAIRSTAY® dry xtreme hairspray.

“This is the season when so many salons are doing beautiful work with brides, these images are a salon’s best advertising.  Post bridal shots in Facebook and Pinterest to let people know that you’re a go to salon for bridal services,” says Patrick McIvor, Artistic & TechniCulture Director for Goldwell and KMS California and social media mentor.
