Hair Icon James Pecis on Educating Oribe’s Educators @ International Training!

Friday, 09 June 2017 17:20

The very recognized brand, Oribe Haircare, is not only known amongst clients as the jeweled bottle with a signature scent, but also a leader in haircare that trains is stylists to elevate the craft.

The popularity of the brand requires all corners of the world have a representative that can take the Oribe message across any land to any women in need of luxury haircare. That’s why, Oribe Haircare held the first International Training held in the U.S. which marks a special moment for the brand’s educational efforts! The point of these trainings is to educate the educator so that they can go back to their countries and teach a consistent Oribe Haircare education message.

It’s very important that people understand that Oribe is about the hairdressers, including having the best tools and education to elevate them through knowledge – that’s why Daniel Kaner dedicates an insane amount of time, money and effort into all of us to develop the best education possibly imaginable,” says Oribe’s Global Ambassador, James Pecis. "This education is very important because these are the people on the ground and they are the voice of Oribe representing us in different countries and making sure that our message, of the highest quality of education is being taught elsewhere."

Pecis is the guru of creative runway hair. His global career and Fashion Week resume makes him a celebrity among the world of beauty and beyond, making his image someone hairdressers worldwide relate to through the shiny pages of a fashion magazine or through celebrity’s start-studded Instagram. Born and raised in Northern California, hairdressing was a vibration of creative possibility for James. A beauty school drop-out, James constructed a better education apprenticing for three years in San Francisco, alongside piecing together hap-dash creative shoots on weekends with friends. Thereafter, Pecis moved to New York City to train in cutting. With education being one of Estetica’s top obsessions, and one of the most important roles of Pecis in the business, we sat down with James to talk about the International Training.

This has been a really amazing two years as Global Ambassador of the brand, I feel like I put more energy into this than any other part of my work,” says Pecis. “I am very passionate about the teaching aspect and I do everything I can to help this company. Daniel Kaner and his team at Oribe is so inspiring and it creates a family where educators just want to do more and more so it’s very exciting. We just finished doing our second campaign, and I think we’re in a really good place because we are starting to have an Oribe language and an identity that we’re building upon.

James Pecis is the session hairstylist behind some of the most seminal images within contemporary fashion. From Vogue Paris, American Vogue, British Vogue, Italian Vogue and W Magazine, James regularly collaborates with top photographers such as Craig McDean, Mario Testino, Inez van Lansweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Mario Sorrenti, Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott.

We did two things, yesterday we had a class here and we went through five looks in one hour,” says Pecis. “This showed the team how I would transition from one thing to the next with a fast pace and they were very extravagant looks. Today we are going to take a more salon-friendly approach with basic techniques that require you to really know your essentials, and also a way to easily transform that to editorial. It’s very important that people see the relation between editorial and salon-friendly hairdressing, so we worked on a technique to put a nice beautiful wave in the hair, control of your curling iron, thread to sew the hair into place instead of bobby-pin use."

Eleven countries participated in the two-day event that included some amazing Oribe educators like Pecis himself, Kien Hoang or Coby Alcantar, to name a few, including Russia, United Arab Emirates, Czech Republic, Australia, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Italy, Canada among others. The brand held a session earlier this year (March) in Denmark, and will be holding another this year (October 9-11) again in Copenhagen!

The response has been amazing, the classes are extremely tough because we wanted to set the bar higher than it’s ever been in line with the ethics of the company. This is how we’re going to grow and this is how we make sure that everyone is on the same level in the company, education is a major part of that," says Pecis.
