6 Ideas to Renew your Salon without Spending a Fortune

Playing with color makes it possible to renew a salon quickly and with limited costs. Ideas can be found all around the world and come from non-salon businesses.

Color can be revolutionize an entire setting in an instant. And in these times, it’s important to please the eye. Indeed, more and more often, clients choose a salon not only for the professionalism of the people working there, but also for the concept it narrates: a relaxing location, but at the same time captivating is an excellent calling card. The latest ideas are based on an alternative use of color:

1. White Background + Bold Colors
Opting for a white background makes it possible to highlight furnishing, especially if they are bold and vivacious colors that stand out easily. It is not always necessary to remodel the entire shop: color can help for example in taking an original approach to defining existing spaces, like the waiting area, the technical corner, or the men’s corner. Salon Dkuk in London, for example, created by the Sam Jacob studio, is interesting not only for its concept –hairdressing salon and exhibition space– but also because it demonstrates how simple structural elements, in this case the wood and small objects, thanks to colour can characterise the overall image.

2. Murals Beyond the Glass
The offices of Sentinal One, in Tel Aviv, offer an inspired space for the use of street-style colour to decorate the walls with murals. The project –curated by A.R. Grinberg Architects– is also interesting for the subdivision of the rooms: in this case the color becomes a space marker while leaving the idea of an open space, thanks to the use of glass, which give the visitor full visibility of the interior.

3. The Fullness of Empty
From working environments to apartments, because the inspiration for your own salon may also come from what is essentially a home. The basic principle is always the same. Give importance to color to bring a space to life, even without to many furnishings and accessories. A useful trick fro the waiting area, for example. In Shanghai, the Ippolito Fleitz group created a  mix of color patterns and linear geometries: an attic where every space, thanks to these chromatic fantasies, reflects the joy of living.

4. The Power of Geometry
In the Pink Zebra restaurant in Kanpur in India, color is the protagonist in association with high-impact geometries in white and black. Pink here has nothing to do with soft pastels, but rather runs the show and claiming the name of this business for itself. The design is signed by Renesa.

5. Retro Contrasts
The atmosphere at Pannelatte, an ice cream parlour in Palma di Mallorca is a whole other story. The interesting contrast between the bright blue and red of the furniture and the walls for a start, but what really stands out is the decoration on the ceiling: entirely white, a non-color that evokes cream (panna) and milk (latte). Huuun Studio also plays with the lights to create a retro setting that recalls the drug stores and soda fountains of early 20th-century Manhattan.

6. Mirror Mirror…
The Blufish restaurant in Beijing has another way of interpreting pastel colors: in this establishment they contrast with gold and superimposed, almost as if they were tissue paper. A technique applied to decorate the ceiling. And clients truly have the impression of being immersed in an iridescent sea, just as the architectural firm of Soda planned.
