Propaganda Hair Group Salon, Austin, Texas

When Lati and Sara Domi decided to open this cutting-edge salon in Austin, Texas, they knew they wanted something youthful, edgy, a vague vintage feel, and of course brimming with functionality and aesthetics. So now the Propaganda Hair Group Salon features a loft-like environment with an open plan, minimal furnishings, and wood and concrete textures. There is an industrial feel, but with the warmth of wood in an open space, with an expert eye to details that facilitate traffic flow and function, eliminating the superfluous.

Walnut cabinets along the outer walls become the leit motif, creating one continuous design element and delineating individual spaces within the open plan.Reception, retail display, makeup artist, stylist stations, color technicians, dressing rooms and smock closet second these cabinets as they transform through the space. The shampoo area is defined by a dropped wood ceiling and sheer curtains, removing the client from the hubbub of the stylng area, offering a peaceful haven. Tall white volumes create a gallery for exhibiting photographs and paintings, as well as offering a refreshing contrast to the dark wood floors and walls, nicely accented with the bling of stylized futuristic lamps and apple green accessories throughout.
A few years ago, the perfect word would have been “Groovy”!
